6 workers killed, several injured in blast at Chhattisgarh steel factory

At least six workers were killed and four others seriously injured after a coal kiln exploded at a steel plant in Chhattisgarh’s Baloda Bazar–Bhatapara district on Thursday. The blast triggered panic at the site and led to a large-scale rescue operation amid fears that more workers could still be trapped.

The explosion occurred during kiln operations at Real Ispat & Power Ltd in Bakulahi village, a rural area of Bhatapara. Hot coal and debris were hurled across the platform where workers were present. Police said 10 people were pulled out from the site, of whom six succumbed to their injuries, while four were rescued alive and rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Emergency teams from the police and district administration reached the plant soon after the incident. The injured were initially taken to the Bhatapara community health centre and later referred to Bilaspur for advanced treatment. Rescue operations were continuing as authorities assessed the possibility of more workers being trapped, while an investigation has been launched to examine safety compliance and the exact cause of the blast.
